At Noodle Factory, our mission is to create educational technology that’s as quick, instant, and easy to use as a cup of noodles. In a recent livestream, we decided to put that concept to the test. Our co-founders, Yvonne Soh and Dr Jim Wagstaff, set up a challenge: Could Walter, our AI teaching-training assistant, complete tasks faster than it takes to make a cup of instant noodles?

Step 1: Setting Up the AI Tutor (0:00 - 2:00 minutes)

As Jim began boiling water for his Tom Yum noodles, Yvonne got straight to work. Her first task was to set up a new AI agent, aptly named “Walter vs Nissin,” specifically for this challenge.

1 - Setting up a bot agent - walter vs cup noodlesYvonne opened a fresh agent and began setting up the AI tutor using a piece of content—Jim’s latest book "AI-Assisted Teaching and Learning: A Generative AI Field Guide for Educators". This part of the setup was seamless. Yvonne simply dragged and dropped the first two chapters of the book, about 40 pages, into the platform. Within seconds, Walter began processing the content.

While Jim’s water was still heating, Yvonne moved on to personalising her AI tutor. She customised the module name to “Jim’s book” and then selected an avatar to represent the tutor. Yvonne chose her favourite character, Muffin, and renamed the avatar “Dr. Muffin.” She also explored other customisation options, like changing the tutor’s greeting message and theme colours, ultimately settling on a blue theme.

Step 3: Content Sync and Review (4:00 - 6:00 minutes)

By the time Jim’s noodles were starting to steep, Yvonne was already seeing the results of her efforts. Walter had successfully synced the 40 pages of content from Jim’s book in just a few minutes. The AI tutor was now equipped with the information, ready to engage with students and answer questions.

Yvonne then switched to viewing the AI tutor from a student’s perspective. She tested the setup by asking a question directly related to the content: “Why should educators care about generative AI?” Walter, powered by the freshly synced content, provided a comprehensive response that highlighted key reasons such as the automation of routine tasks, personalised feedback, enhanced student engagement, time savings, and the ability to focus more on critical thinking.

4 - Engaging with contentYvonne even demonstrated how she could view the source of the information, ensuring that the responses were accurate and well-grounded in Jim’s book. This level of transparency is crucial for educators who want to trust the AI with their teaching materials.

With Walter fully operational and synced, Yvonne continued to explore the possibilities. She posed another question to the AI tutor: “Explain GPT to me as if you were speaking to your grandmother.” Within seconds, Walter generated a simplified explanation that would be easily understood by anyone, regardless of their technical background.

Despite Jim’s best efforts to compete with the speed of Walter, the AI tutor had clearly won this race. Yvonne had successfully set up, synced, and personalised an AI tutor capable of engaging with educational content in less time than it took to prepare a simple cup of noodles.

Conclusion: Walter—As Instant as a Cup of Noodles

This friendly competition between Walter and a cup of noodles highlighted the efficiency and ease of use that Noodle Factory’s platform offers. In just a few minutes, Yvonne was able to create a fully functional AI tutor, personalise it, and begin engaging with the content—all while Jim was still waiting for his noodles to cook.
